Damage to Household Goods by Carmack Moving and Storage

I rarely leave reviews and when I do, they are mostly positive. In this case, I am writing this review to hopefully save others from the frustration, hassle and additional money expenditures that I have to endure as a result of choosing Carmack. I highly suggest that you do not hire Carmack as they are not ethical, at least in my case. I used Carmack for an Interstate Move in September 2023. Unfortunately, they damaged my Samsung refrigerator by denting the front drawers in multiple locations and when we plugged it back in, the front electronic panel display was also damaged as it did not display the temperature numbers correctly. They LEDs where just randomly blinking and not even displaying the digits associated with the temperature. The panel was obviously "crushed" during the move as it was in perfect operating condition before Carmack moved it. It is important to note that we were instructed to disconnect everything prior to the crew arriving for the move. Upon submission of my claim for the damage under a full replacement value policy that I had purchased for $1079, Carmack's response after 126 days (my claim was submitted on time) was that the Mechanical Condition was Unknown, and the claim was denied. The dents to the front of the unit where not even addressed in their denial and that damage was not noted on their inspection form prior to the movement of the item. To replace the refrigerator with a like unit is approximately $3000. So, the insurance was essentially useless (they did cover individual glass items out of a set, but now we don't have complete sets). I will give them the benefit of the doubt on those items and after that adjustment, I am out of my pocket approximately $3700 as a result of this experience with Carmack. In total, that equates to an additional 16% added to the cost of the move. Frankly, it is not about the money, this company does not stand by their contractual obligations and I intent to pursue this in VA small claims court as I am making no progress trying to resolve this situation amicably directly with Carmack. I hope this review helps you make a better decision than I did by hiring Carmack.

Long-distance move from Washington DC to Virginia

Great movers; extremely professional!

Carmack Moving and Storage is as good as it gets when it comes to moving companies. I was recently moving from the D.C. area toVirginia, and they provided great service from start to finish. When I first called them to get a quote and see if they would be available to help me, they were friendly, professional, and extremely organized. I was blown away; most of the other companies that I spoke with were much less courteous and didn’t seem to have it all together.

Carmack went out of their way to give me all of the information I needed; anticipating my questions and actually having the answers was a big plus to me. They provided me with cost saving tips for my move and remained consistent from the first call until the last call.

The price I paid ($900) was extremely fair and was lower than other moving companies in the area that I called first. I was doing my move on a budget, but never at any point felt like I was working with a budget moving team; these guys are awesome at their jobs.

On the day of the move, the moving crew arrived on time, and were ready to get to work right away. They were extremely hard working and moved my belongings with care, packing everything logically (which made unpacking much easier for me). The truck was packed quickly and efficiently, which showed me that the crew really knew what they were doing. This left us the entire day to unpack our things and get settled in. .

Below average.

I will not use this moving company again. They did a lousy job of unloading our items at our new house. Alot of items were broke. We had purchased two new lamps for our new house. The mover forced the lamps back together instead of screwing them together so essentail he broke the lamps. They don't stand upright after the mover put them together. They are leaning and you can see it when you look at the lamps. We paid $40.00 per lamp. I had to get two new lamps. Don't waste your time with this company.

Long-distance move from Virginia to Arizona

Carmac – The best movers in town!!

I’m a lecturer and recently I had to shift to my new campus in Arizona from Virginia. I loved the idea of testing new waters but I had no idea about how am I going to pack all my books, furniture and other valuables and transporting those safely to my new home in AZ. The advice I got from all my friends were to hire a moving company, I didn’t like the idea at first as I had really bad experience in the past with an unprofessional moving company. And this is where I heard about the Carmac from a friend who had used their service and was immensely pleased about it. So I decided to check them before hiring.
The moment I spoke to the Carmac customer support, I must say I was impressed. The lady who answered the phone was extremely polite, friendly and knew her information. Once I booked an appointment, an officer from Carmac came to assess the stuff I had to move and gave me a quotation, which was very reasonable.
On the day of shifting, the laborers and a supervisor from Carmac came to my home on time and started packing. I must say they were expertise in the field. I had some antique furniture and I was a bit worried about the safety of the pieces. But the team assured me that every single piece of furniture will be moved with maximum safety and zero damage; and they did it!! The laborers had a sound knowledge on these kind of furniture and their delicate packing methods were convincing. No bulging, throwing or shoving. Each package and piece was handed with utmost care. I must say that the way the Carmac crew and staff conducted their duties were way beyond my expectations. And whenever I need or had to recommend a moving and storage company – CARMAC will be the only one! Thank you Carmac for the excellent job.

Excellent Service.

Carmack Moving & Storage is the best. I’ve used them several times now, for both personal and business, and wouldn’t think of calling anyone else. They are professional, on time, and on quote. You work with your Sales Rep for quoting and scheduling. On moving day, you work with your Team Lead, tell him what you want/need, you do this one time and there is no need to explain it again to anyone else. The ladies in the office are efficient and willing to assist no matter what your need. The first time I used them, I thought that I would do some of the work ahead of time, so I chose to pack in order to get a cheaper rate. However, on moving day, everything was still not packed. They came in and made very short work of what I had been spending days on. Won’t make that mistake again. I just recently saw the history of Carmack and see that they started in 1985 with just one 1972 pickup truck. This is a family owned and operated business and that kind of growth just doesn’t happen by providing anything but the best of service. I despise moving, and will always call on Carmack to make the madness bearable. I suggest that you do the same.

Damage Property.

On 26 February 2020, I was moved by Carmack from Lorton VA to Woodbridge VA. The overall move was excellent and the Movers where very professional and duty oriented. However, during the move one of our tv’s was damaged.

The movers packaged and stowed the television on its side before placing it in the movers truck. Then when they unloaded the television they stowed it on its side in our master bedroom in Woodbridge.

It is known that flat screen tv’s especially at the size of ours (65”) are required to be stowed/placed upright at all times to balance the weight of the tv and prevent damages.

Our tv is now inoperable, cracked, and displays a black distorted images due to the negligent packaging/placement by the movers. Carmack Moving has not returned any of my emails or call referencing my claim.

We went with Carmack Moving company particularly, due to the customer service of Ms. Debbie. This is really disappointing. It is already costly to move and then to incur a debt to replace an appliance unexpectedly due to negligence is completely unsatisfactory.

Recent move with Carmack ... disappointing

We arranged to have Carmack move my parents from their house in Warrenton to a new assisted living facility in Central Virginia. Our experience with the company was mixed. While they were punctual, their price estimates accurate and were easy to work with, some of our handmade furniture was damaged during the process. The damage resulted directly from the carelessness of the moving team who filled out time sheets and forms on a cherry dining room table (family heirloom) and was not due to the move itself. This left deeply-indented marks in the table that Carmack ensure they would repair at their cost, given it was due directly to their actions.

In the end, they decided the cost of the repair ($4000, estimated by a furniture repair shop of their own choosing) was not worth fixing the damage they caused and was due to their own negligence. My initial review and impression of Carmack was positive, but after this interaction my opinion is much more ambivalent. Needless to say, I am disappointed by their initial assurances they would fix the issue (possibly to get a good review) but in the end reneged on their verbal promises.

I would neither trust them nor hire them again for a move.
